SACK THE STATUS QUO

“As pieces crumble and fall, there is opportunity to create something constructive, a home for new life. Original tribes never feared the burning of the old because it made way for the new. Eyes forward, heart open. We decide how we live, not the status quo.”

Action over words.
Together, as a community, we will find the solutions for these non-negotiables.

ECOLOGY

“The Traditional Custodians say that the key to a healthy ecology is to put Mother Earth first. For me, that means that every thought and action we have needs to come from a profound respect for the Earth. This will result in harmony within our internal and external environment.”

  • Protect our wetlands and other precious natural habitats from development interests
  • Investigate options for food security in the region
  • Say ‘no’ to glyphosates for Council use
  • Explore fibre optics as an alternative to any untested technology
  • Focus on the mental health of our community.

ECONOMY

“There are a lot of people hurting in this community during these times when there are many in power who are not serving those who elected them.”

  • Lobby for funding and concessions for small business who have been doing it hard
  • Donate Mayoral salary back to the community
  • Make Council financially efficient and transparent with more community consultation (we won’t have another Disco Dong)
  • Showcase our initiatives and create new industries and opportunities out of the recent challenges
  • Keep the State Government out of our Shire – no decisions made outside of Byron when it comes to our local environment, economy and culture.

COMMUNITY

“The system is broken on all levels, and people are frustrated because they aren’t being heard. I have the guts to stand for a much better system by working with the community to take Byron back from those who do not have our best interests in mind.”

  • Reignite Byron’s vibrant and diverse culture by stimulating the arts and creative industries
  • Address the affordability and housing crisis by capping holiday letting, establishing land trusts, working with community land owners and supporting emerging technologies that will foster low cost, high yield eco-communities
  • Develop networks of internal trade and a redistributed value structure for organic agriculture, reforestation and landcare, with relevant concessions and stimulus
  • Work with Traditional Custodians to re-establish a strong connection to Country, paving the way for potential alliances within alternative system structures.
